Getting Well and the Kitten Surprise

IMG_0016

I thought I’d check in with you and let you know that I’m feeling much better. Back in April I got very sick and Mommy didn’t know what was wrong with me. She took me to Dr. Kevin and he ran all sorts of tests. Finally he told Mommy that all he could find was that I had five very bad teeth that were infected. He felt that if he cleaned my teeth and pulled the bad ones, I would get well. Mommy told him to do what it took to get me better.

I had to stay at Dr. Kevin’s for several days. I wondered where Mommy was and I was scared. Dr. Kevin fixed my teeth and gave me medicine for the infection. I was so glad when Mommy came and brought me home.

The five teeth that Dr. Kevin pulled were all on the right side. My mouth was sore for a long time and I didn’t feel very hungry. I got very skinny. Mommy worried, but Dr. Kevin told her it would take some time, since I am an old cat.

I had my 14th birthday on May 15th. By then I was feeling better. Mommy and Daddy told me happy birthday and gave me my favorite cat food.

I didn’t really start gaining weight until I figured out how to eat dry cat food with my teeth missing. Mommy saw me do it one day and was surprised. She told Dr. Kevin and he was surprised too. I don’t see why. Mommy had a bunch of teeth pulled and she figured it out. Why shouldn’t I be able to figure it out? Sometimes people are so stupid. (No offense, Mommy.)

I pick up a piece of kibble, move it over to where I have teeth with my tongue, and chew on the left side. Duh, humans, that isn’t so hard. Is it? Isn’t that what you would do?

I have finally gained my weight back.  Mommy is happy about that. So am I because I feel better. I spend most of the time on Mommy’s bed, relaxing. Lately though, I have strolled through the cottage to see what’s going on in the rest of the house.

On one of my strolls last week I ran straight into a kitten!! It ran by me very fast and then, I saw another kitten! Where did these little monsters come from, I wanted to know. Mommy explained it to me.

I see where Mommy and Amy have already introduced you to Sugar and Spice. They are kind of cute, as kittens go. (I never had any myself so don’t know why everyone thinks they are so wonderful.)

Sugar and Spice decided (on the very first night Mommy left them out of the kennel) that they were going to sleep with Mommy.

“Oh No!” I told them. “Mommy’s bed is my territory. You can sleep beside it or under it, but I’m not sharing. A few growls and hisses gave them the idea, although I still have to remind them each and every night. This younger generation has no respect for their elders at all!

I’m still pretty quick with a slap when another cat invades my territory, so they will learn soon enough. Precious’ kittens did. Lordy, never did I dream I would have to teach kittens their manners again once Mommy got everyone spayed. Who would have dreamed that kittens would just show up with no warning at all!

While I’ve been writing, they have managed to knock Mommy’s stereo off the shelf. Good. Maybe she will stop thinking they are so cute once they destroy a few more of her things. Oh, I didn’t mean to sound vindictive, but she is so goofy over them. But then, she was that way over me and my sister, Lucy, too.

Mommy will never change. She just plain ole loves us kitties.

New Arrivals – Thrown-Away Kittens

Nikon 035 Can you tell I am in shock, or at least in disbelief? We all are. You see, yesterday Mommy was walking Jay Dog and found two kittens.

Mommy was walking Jay Dog and heard one of them meowing. It was walking down the middle of the road toward Mommy. She picked it up and brought it in, fed it and put it in the kennel. I heard her tell Daddy that it was too young to have wandered there, someone had “dropped it out”. I don’t know exactly what that means, but it must not be good ‘cause Mommy sounds mad when she says it.

After she got the kitten settled in the kennel, Mommy told Daddy she would be back in a little bit. She said that people like that usually drop out the whole litter.

She left and in a little bit came back and got a can of cat food. There was one more she said, but it was afraid. Soon Mommy was back with another kitten. It was fed and put into the kennel with the other one. Mommy went back and looked some more, but came back without anymore kittens.

Daddy named them Sugar for the silver tabby and Spice for the red tabby. You can see they are little. And they have Mommy and Daddy all wrapped up. Geez!Cannon 2010 033

I think Mommy and Daddy like them a lot already.

I’ll keep you posted on how this works out. We kitties don’t really mind. But I think that Spice may give me a challenge for Top Cat position someday.
