Tigger’s Latest Adventure

Purrs to all! I have had an eventful week. Monday, Mommy took me to the vet’s office. . .and left me there!!!!

I was so very afraid. The doctor took me out of my cage several times to do tests to see what was wrong with me. I was a good boy and didn’t put up a fight. I was too scared. Mommy was nowhere to be seen, and I did not know all those people.

The doctor and his nurses were all very nice to me. I kept trying to hide behind the litter box in my cage. The last morning I was there one of the nurses told me “It’s not working, Tigger, I can see you.” I was shocked. All that time I had thought that since I was crouched with my head behind the litter box and couldn’t see them, that they couldn’t see me either. I’m still thinking about that one. They told Mommy that they said I was an ostrich, whatever that is. It must be OK, because Mommy laughed.

Mommy finally came and brought me home. The doctor told her it was a recurrance of my bladder infection and that her gave me a shot of two week antibiotic. She isn’t making me take that awful medicine anymore, so I guess it was worth getting a shot.

When I got home Jay Jay was really glad to see me, but my sisters and Mama hissed at me. That hurt my feelings. Mommy said it was because I smelled like the vet’s office and that they would get over it in a day or two. Thomas and Mikey just gave me a sniff to say hello and went on their way.

The shot the doctor gave me is working, because I feel better every day. I’m back to being my loving, sweet self, Mommy says.

I have to go now, I hear Mommy filling the food dish and I’ve been very hungry since I got home. Vet hospital food is not the same as what you have at home, you know.

Purrs to all…..Tigger

Mikey

IMG_0145Hello, I’m Mikey the Wonder Cat. I’m a ‘wonder cat’ because you always have to wonder what I’m going to do next. Mommy has been busy on the computer working on a spreadsheet and analysing data all day. She made me wait for computer time.

While I was waiting I got a little bored, so I wandered into the kitchen looking for something to do. Mommy has some real cute little cherry tomatoes she picked yesterday. Now she doesn’t have as many as she did this morning. I discovered they make super duper toys. They roll, are soft enough to hook a claw in and toss, boy these things are great!

Daddy saw me and told on me, so now the tomatoes are in a container to keep me from stealing any more for toys. Daddy brought me in a hickory nut to chase instead. We have lots of toys, but all of us like the things we find and pretend are toys best.

Daddy says I’m a handsome tomcat with a very expressive face. Mommy says I have a very melodious meow. They both say I’m a little spoiled. I make sure they spoil me by getting in their laps and rubbing against them, purring and being very lovable. It works too, because I get away with things (like the tomatoes) that Amy or Maggie Mae would get scolded for.

I’m a big cat like my brother Tigger. I’m “taller” and longer though, so while we weigh the same 15 pounds, he is chubby and I’m sleek and muscular. Tigger can move pretty fast though. I sat on the table today (and last night) watching Mommy try to catch him and give him his medicine. Daddy blocked the door with his wheelchair and when Tigger ran between the wheels, Daddy caught him by the tail. Tigger cried, so Daddy let him go before Mommy could get there, and the chase was on again. She did catch him and give him the medicine though. Tigger sure does hate that stuff.

Now, with Jay Jay and Tigger both having bladder/kidney stone problems, Mommy is on a health kick. She brought new dog and cat food that is supposed to help with the bladder thing and our general health. We are ALL mad at Mommy now, because we hate that food. It is bland, has no good flavors or smell, no pretty colors, nothing. And she expects us to eat it!  We are taking turns sitting at the food dish, looking unhappy, in the hopes she will change her mind. Amber even tried to cover it up, but Mommy didn’t take the hint.

I would like to take a nap, but it isn’t long till time for Tigger’s medicine and I have a bet with Thomas T that he’ll get away this time. I’ll talk to you folks again another day. I’m going to find a good spot to watch the race. Purrs to all.

Tigger. . .

IMG_0296

I’m Tigger. I’m Precious’ favorite son. I tell Mikey all the time that Mama loves me best. He just gives me that cat-eyed look and goes off to find something to do (nap usually).

At the moment I’m mad at Mommy. You see; I was sick with a bladder infection a few weeks ago and she took me to the vet. He poked and prodded me all over, but I was a good boy and just mewed a little. Then he gave me some shots and medicine that Mommy brought home and gave me. She had to keep it cold.  I DO NOT like cold stuff!

Everything was OK till yesterday when I started feeling bad again. I tried not to let Mommy know, but Jay Jay dog can smell the infection, and he started following me around and being worried.Mommy had been keeping a close eye on me anyway, I think she and Jay Jay figured it out at about the same time.

I overheard Mommy telling Daddy this morning that she was going to call the vet. Then she left and when she came back, she had more of that awful, cold medicine! Daddy held me in his lap while she made me drink it from a syringe that had the correct dose marked on it. Yucky stuff!!! I ran off and hid when she and Daddy let me go.

I love Daddy, but I wish he wouldn’t help Mommy give me that medicine. He has strong arms and can hold onto me real good. He told Mommy I was a heavy cat. She said, “Well, he weighed 15 pounds at the vet’s office.”

That makes me think of another thing I’m mad at Mommy about.

When I was at the vet’s he told Mommy he was worried about my weight because I had a class 3 heart mummer. I don’t know what that is, but it made Mommy worry and she and Daddy started putting the food dishes away at night, ours and Jay Jay’s. She said that was because I eat Jay Jay’s food, too. I think, ‘but it is only a snack, gee whiz, not my regular 20 meals a day that I eat from the cat-food dish.’ I don’t see the problem. I eat nutritious food most of the time.

Right now I’m trying to stay under the covers in Daddy’s room. Mommy can’t see me there, I only look like a big lump under the covers. If she does see me, she might think I’m Mikey, because he likes to sleep under the covers, too.

I’m glad Mommy let me write today, I feel better now that I gotten to tell someone how she has been picking on me lately with these vet visits, medicine, and diet. I’m just a pitiful little bitty kitty after all.

Amy

Hi everyone! I’m Amy, sister to Maggie Mae and Amber. I have been walking on the keyboard all morning, trying to give Mommy a hint that I wanted to go next on our blog. Did you know that search engines get all confused when you type in a string of “A’s”?

I am busy all the time. Mommy says that if she got a dollar every time she said “Amy get down!” or “Amy,stop that!” she could retire. Daddy says he only time I’m not looking for trouble is when I’m asleep. Boy, I’m glad Daddy doesn’t know what I dream about…trouble!

I love the canned food that Lisa gets, and am always waiting to be first cat through the door to get her leftovers. When Mommy comes to open the door I dance on my hind feet and try to help her. She made a video of me wanting the door opened and posted it on Youtube.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkbS1MByQUY  Does that mean I’m a celebrity?

Before I tackled the keyboard I spent some time chasing a bug that slipped in under the front door. He kept getting away, but I finally caught him. I only knocked over two lamps and scattered the books on the coffee table during the chase. Mommy wasn’t too mad, she just straightened it all back up and said, “Amy, Amy, Amy.”

I think life is exciting and fun. When bugs get inside they are fun to chase and catch, books and magazines make the neatest noise when they fall to the floor (especially if they scare Jay Jay dog when they land), and cabinets are great places to hide in and jump out at my siblings and Mommy. I’ve even considered leaping from the top of the kitchen cabinets and trying to catch the ceiling fan, but Mommy yelled at me to stop.

I’m glad I got to talk to you this morning, but I think my brother is taking a nap and I have to go pounce on him and see if he wants to play chase. Bye-bye and purrs to you all.

Maggie Mae

Pictures 026Maggie Mae is my name and the basement is my domain.

I love the basement at Shady Hollow, it has windows I can sit in and watch the chipmunks. I sure would love to catch a chipmunk. They hop and scurry around mommy’s garden and I can see them from my windows. They don’t see me watching them. I get  excited and my tail swishes back and forth so fast that the white tip on the end is a blur.

I can watch Mommy work in her garden from my windows. Sometimes she will come over to the window and talk to me. I like to watch Mommy. . .but I like watching chipmunks better.

Like Amber (why did Mommy let her go first?), I am one of Precious’ kittens. We were born March 2, 2007.

I love to play and chase things. Daddy will ball up a paper napkin and throw it across the room for me. He says my eyes get so big while I wait for him to toss the paper ball. I am after it as soon as it leaves his hand and when I catch it, I bring it back for him to toss it again.

At night, when I’m not patrolling the house and basement, I sleep on Mommy’s bed. I always sleep in a spot where I can see down the hall, just in case something happens I need to investigate. Nothing, but nothing, gets by me.

It is real hard for me to sit still, there is so much to be doing and seeing from the windows. Mommy and Daddy say if I was an “outside cat” I would be a great hunter. I hunt all the time inside, and will bring Mommy and Daddy toys and small items after I “kill” them as presents.

I would talk to you longer, but I haven’t checked my basement windows this morning and there is no telling what those chipmunks are up to. Bye bye till later.

Lisa Speaks

Lisa

I love to talk and when people talk to me I answer them back. Most people don’t understand cat language though and just think I’m a cute kitty. Mommy said I could talk to you today. I still don’t understand why she let Amber go first, after all I’m the oldest.

I have lived here since I was 9 weeks old. I came with my sister, Lucy. Lucy has been gone for almost a year. Mommy said she crossed the veil and we will see her again someday. When we came here to live there were two other cats already here, Pretty Girl and Squeaker. They were a lot older than us and have crossed the veil too. I think they came and helped Lucy across.

When Mommy got me spayed the doctor found ovarian cancer and told Mommy that he thought he got it all, but that if he didn’t I wouldn’t live long. We think he got it, because I’m still here and am pretty spry for a 13 year old.

I get special food now because dry cat food is hard to eat. The other cats go crazy wanting MY food. Mommy puts me in her bedroom to eat and closes the door so I have a peaceful meal.

When Precious came to live here I thought it was kinda neat. Then she had those pesky kittens. Lucy loved them right away and would spend hours playing with them. I slapped them whenever they got close. I did not want to be bothered by their foolishness. I still slap them, and they forget they are bigger than me and run away. I laugh to myself, they aren’t as smart as they think they are.

These young cats are clumsy too. They jump for things and miss. They knock things off shelves and tables. They just aren’t graceful at all. I have always been a graceful cat and still am. I just don’t understand why these kids have to be in such a rush that they make a mess everywhere they go.

They are messy too, slinging litter everywhere when they go to the cat-box. I am very careful about such things and try to be neat and keep the litter in its place. I guess I am getting old, but I just don’t understand this younger generation.

I appreciate your taking time to listen to me, but I am an old cat and it’s past my nap time. I’ll talk to you again soon.

Welcome!

Hello, my name is Amber and Mommie used my picture as the header for our blog. I was born here at Shady Hollow a bit over two years ago. Everyone says I have pastel eyes, whatever that means. They tell me that and what a sweet kitty I am when I accompany them to the bathroom. I go to the bathroom with everybody who visits here. Mommie says I am some cat named Sammy reincarnated, because Sammy went to the bathroom with everybody too. She calls me the bathroom cat and laughs.

I have two sisters, Maggie Mae and Amy. We are all considered blue-cream calicos, but while Amy looks a lot like me, Maggie Mae is, well, different. I have two brothers, Mikey and Tigger. They are a lot bigger than my sisters and me, but they are good boys.

Our mother lives here too, her name is Precious and she is a long-haired blue-cream. My Mommie found her where some not-so-nice human had set her out behind where Mommie works. My mother has a crippled front foot. She says it was broken when she was a kitten and did not heal correctly. She was afraid of our Mommie at first, but Mommie kept taking her food and talking to her until mother decided to come home with her.

There are some more cats who were here when our mother arrived. Lisa is the oldest, Mommie says she is 13 years old. We learned as kittens to not make Lisa mad at us. She would slap us if we got too close. Now even though we are a lot bigger then her, we still give Lisa plenty of room.

Thomas T is the only cat brave enough to go outside. Mommie lets him go out, but makes the rest of us stay inside. We don’t mind, because it looks scary out there. Thomas doesn’t go far from the door. Mommie says he is 10 years old and doesn’t wander anymore. Thomas came here after some not-so-nice humans dropped him out in the neighborhood and left him.

The other cat who lives here with us is called “Mama” even though she has never had kittens. A lady had asked our Mommie to cat sit over the Thanksgiving holidays and then never came back for Mama. Mama is not friendly to the rest of us cats. We all think Mama has serious issues. Mama is 12 years old and has lived here for 3 years now, but doesn’t like anyone but our Mommie.

We have a lot of fun here, and Mommie and Daddy love us very much. I hope you will visit us again and see what’s happening at the cathouse.

Amber
