Jay Jay Has Had Enough. . .

Jay Jay
Jay Jay

Ok, so I’m a dog. I know I’m a dog and I know this blog belongs to the cats. Cats! Umph! They are everywhere around here. I remember the good old days when there were only 4 cats. Sophie was here then, so at least I had another dog to talk to about doggie stuff. Those were the days!

When I arrived as a mere puppy, Sophie took me under her care and taught me dog stuff. Squeakie the cat taught me cat stuff, like jumping off the back of the recliner (hurt my back doing that and still have trouble with it to this day). Sophie took life and pleasing Mommy and Daddy very seriously. Squeakie was fun, a rebel, and did not believe in pleasing anyone but himself. I learned a lot from Squeakie. The other cats were scared of me. They couldn’t figure out if I was a cat or dog. Well, nobody ever said cats were real smart you know. And yes, I do feel a bit superior to the cats. Its a dog thing.

Like I was saying, nowadays, there are cats everywhere. They get on my bed, they eat my food, they drink from my dish. They even get in my daddy’s lap, and they know he is MY daddy and I don’t like to share. They even ignore me when I grrr at them to let them know I don’t like their attitude.

I’m the “only dog” now and am so outnumbered. But well, they are MY cats. Sophie told me to watch out for them, and I try. When Tigger got sick in July, I knew it before anyone else. I followed him around and did all I could to tell Mommy that something was wrong. She figured it out sooner than she would have, thanks to my efforts. She even told Dr. Kevin that I knew before she did and tried to tell her.

Tigger had surgery and is doing much better. He is still a nervous wreck from all the trips to Dr. Kevin’s office, medicine, and stress from being left at the hospital so many times. He is recovering though. I know how he feels. I had kidney stone surgery earlier this year, and had to be left up there. I was very upset and angry. I turn into my evil twin whenever I go to the vet. They don’t like it when Mommy calls to say she is bringing me in.

Other than Tigger being sick all the time it has been “normal” at Shady Hollow. Mama says the garden is about done. That means she and I will start fall yard work soon. I like to play in the leaves when she rakes them up. I will help her when she plows under the garden spot too. I love to dig in the fresh dirt.

Lisa is happier now that Mommy took her video off YouTube. Lisa hates that video! Mommy took it down, but she left up the others. Right now, Amy is after a bug than came inside, but all the other cats are napping. Hmmm, that sounds like a good idea. I think (yawn) I will take a nap too.

Mama Cat, Slipping into the Computer Room. . .

IMG00078It is late, and since I am shy about being around many other cats, or people other than Mommy, I decided it would be a good time to introduce myself. Mommy leaves the computer on and so I slipped in here to write without anyone knowing.

My name is Mama. I never had any kittens so don’t know why I have that name, but my first owner gave it to me. I was 9 years old when I came here, so nobody wanted to get me confused by changing it. They do have another name for me when they talk about me though…”Hell Cat”.

I like to be petted and want it, but then I get really scared and scratch the person petting me. It is just because my first person was sort of loopy and mean to me (she didn’t understand cats) and she never let me get to know people other than her. We moved a lot cause she couldn’t seem to keep a steady home for us. So, I HAVE ISSUES!!!

I like the basement at Shady Hollow every bit as much as Maggie Mae does, but for my own reasons. I like it because no human but Mommy goes down there, the other cats (except for Maggie Mae) prefer to be under Mommy’s feet all the time, so stay upstairs a lot. I get my privacy and nobody bothers me.

When my first person brought me here, she said she would be back in 3 days to get me. That was almost 3 years ago. Mommy talked to her and she said she would have to put me at ‘the pound’ if Mommy did not keep me. She couldn’t be bothered by a cat with issues anymore.

Mommy told daddy that she couldn’t let me go to the pound, because with my issues, I’d never find a home and would be put down. So, here I am, issues and all. I like it here and am not as scared as I was. I guess you could say I’m entering my golden years in a good home at last. I am never hungry or thirsty. I am petted (when I let them pet me) and am learning how to cope with the other cats. Sometimes I even come upstairs and sit in the kitchen window and watch Mommy cook.

Oops, I hear Mommy, I don’t want her to know I’ve been on the computer. Time to slip back downstairs. Bye…

Tigger Home and Doing Well

We brought Tigger home today. He is hiding under the bed, but other than that seems fine. One of the cats will add and update on what has been happening at the Cat House sometime over the weekend.

Tigger Having Surgery Today

Tigger

Tigger

Tigger is having surgery today in an attempt to keep him from blocking up in the future. Dr. Kevin thinks this will prevent some of the mad dashes to his office we have experienced over the last two months, but will not necessarily cure the cystitis.

Once the deadly danger of blocking up is over, we will treat the cystitis with additional fluids, wet cat food, and a different medication. Tigger had a severe reaction to the last medication we tried.

All the Shady Hollow cats and we, their parents, are worried about Tigger and are praying this will help him on the road to recovery.

Yet Another Tigger Update

Precious checking in tonight to let you all know my son, Tigger, is back over at All Saint’s Animal Hospital. This time he had a blockage, sort of what mommy and Dr. Kevin had been suspecting was going to happen. Dr.Kevin called Mommy this evening and said they took care of it and Tigger can come home tomorrow.

We all hope Tigger will be okay after this trip. He is a good boy and has been a trooper through the last 8 weeks of being sick so much.

Mommy took a little movie of me and my daughter, Amy, playing and put it on Youtube to share. Here is a link in case you want to see us play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8BAH9w0Edk

Its late and Mommy says we have to go to bed now. Meows and purrs………Precious

New Page Added

IMG_0016I wanted to let you know that Mommy added a new page to our blog. It is an “In Memory Of” page. Mommy said it was to let all of you get to see pictures and read a little about past Shady Hollow Cats (and Sophie Dog).

One of them is my sister, Lucy. I miss Lucy a lot. We were always together. We looked very much alike and people had trouble telling us apart until they got to know us.

Mommy has been on the computer a lot lately. We are having trouble getting her to let us write. Yesterday Tigger took over the laptop, but fell asleep before he could do anything but check email. Mommy keeps putting stuff in his ear every day and he sleeps more and seems calmer. We think it is working because he has not had to go back to see the doctor for two weeks now.

The other day Mommy was playing with her cell phone and uploaded an awful video of me to YouTube. I am mad because it does not show how pretty or smart I am. If some other cat saw it, they would think I was an old hag. I am trying to get Mommy to make a better video and put it up. Wish me luck!

It’s my nap-time, so I’ll talk to you again later. Bye-bye and purrs, Lisa.

Tigger’s Issues

My Mommy found out what is wrong with me. It is a condition known as idiopathic sterile cystitis. The veterinary community is not sure what causes it, and there is no definite treatment. He told my Mommy to make sure I can always get to a litter box whenever I need to go; make sure I have my favorite litter in the boxes, and lower my stress levels. I also have to drink more fluids, and my doctor would like me to eat wet cat food (I don’t like it). He gave Mommy a sample of anti-depressant for cats that she puts in my ear once a day to be absorbed. If it helps, she will go get more.

Daddy says it only shows how dysfunctional we have become when the cat has to start taking antidepressants.

When the doctor asked Mommy was there any stress in my life she looked at him in amazement. Stress? He only lives with 8 other cats, a dog, a man in a wheelchair, and her. No stress there! The whole family has been under stress since Daddy got sick and lost his leg. We have had to adapt to many changes at the cottage. Mommy thinks that since I have always been shy and nervous, it just finally caught up with me. She says she and I are in the same boat (I’m not sure what a boat is, but Mommy said it).

I like the litter box change, I like the extra petting and attention, I like being able to get away from my siblings each day for my alone time. I am not real happy about the cream in the ear deal though. But, it is much better than a pill down my throat.

The other kitties are all doing okay. Mama cat still won’t write. She is so grouchy that nobody can deal with her. (I wonder if she is part of my stress?) Lisa is being a good kitty, Mommy put a video of her on YouTube. It is bad quality and does not do Lisa justice. Lisa is mad and wants Mommy to take it down and put up a better one.

Mikey has been chasing Maggie Mae all morning. They just got into a fight in the hallway. Maggie caught a cricket the other day, but she wants to tell you about that herself. She is very proud.

Amy is still in trouble (she is always in trouble) and Amber is being the quiet kitty she always is. She butters up to Mommy and Daddy that way. Thomas is asleep in Daddy’s wheelchair, so he is being “good” for Thomas.

All this typing is making me feel stressed, so I’m going to get underneath the comforter on Mommy’s bed and have some alone time. Purrs to all from me, Tigger.
