We know this has nothing to do with us kitties, but we do have our doggie brother Jay-Jay, and he needs special things sometimes.
Jay-Jay got really sick from eating dog treats Mommy bought from the store. She decided to make them herself, not buy imports from China anymore. So she found some bone shaped cookie cutters and used the recipe that came with them. Jay-Jay likes the treats and Mommy knows what’s in them. It’s a win-win for us.
Here is the recipe. The cutter wrapper was tossed, so Mommy doesn’t know who to attribute it too. We don’t mean to infringe, just to pass on helpful information.
Basic Dog Biscuits
- 3-1/2 cups unbleached flour
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup skim milk powder
- 1 tablespoon (or 1 package) dry yeast
- 3-1/2 cups lukewarm chicken or meat broth
Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm chicken or meat broth. The richer is broth is, the better your dog will like the biscuits. Let the yeast broth mixture set 10 minutes. Then stir in powdered milk. Stir to dissolve milk powder.
Stir in flour mixture. Roll resulting dough out to 1/4” thick. Cut dog biscuit shapes from dough. Brush biscuits with an egg wash. Baked on greased cookie sheets at 300 degrees for 45 minutes. Turn off oven an leave biscuits inside while the oven cools and the biscuits finish hardening. Makes about 60 medium size biscuits.
This was the first time Mommy had tried this. Since Jay-Jay is an older dog, she did not leave them in the oven to harden all the way.
We kitties just want to know one thing….. when is Mommy going to cook up some kitty treats for us?
